In his role as patent attorney, Lars Birken serves companies with the aim of patenting and exploiting their technological innovations. He is primarily involved in the judicial and extrajudicial enforcement of technological intellectual property rights both in Germany and abroad, in patent prosecution and in developing solutions relating to competitor IP rights. Lars Birken also provides legal advice on employee invention issues and on patent portfolio management.
According to Handelsblatt/Best Lawyers, Lars Birken ranks as one of Germany’s best lawyers in 2024 in the field of Intellectual Property Law.
He speaks German, English and French.
Engineering training at the RWTH Technical University of Aachen, graduated with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) in 1995, preclinical studies in human medicine; AO Research Institute, Davos, Dr.-Ing. (Doctor of Engineering) degree obtained in 2001 from the Technical University (TU) of Hamburg-Harburg.
Legal training at Eisenführ Speiser, Distance-Learning University of Hagen: Law for Patent Attorneys, 2000-2002; German Patent and Trademark Office, German Patent Court, State Examination passed in 2003; Distance-Learning University of Hagen: Master’s degree in European Intellectual Property, LL.M. 2008. Patent Attorney (Germany) since 2003.
Lecturer in Patent Law at the Helmut Schmidt University - the university of the German armed forces in Hamburg.
Lars Birken is member of the management board of Eisenführ Speiser.
