The World Intellectual Property Organization has published the World IP Indicators Report 2021. It shows that applications for intellectual property rights have increased worldwide despite the global pandemic in 2020. Trademark applications in particular increased significantly by more than 13.7 % compared to the previous year. There has also been growth in patents (1.6 %) and designs (2 %).

The WIPI report analyses data from around 150 national and regional offices and authorities every year.
