The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has published the Global Innovation Index 2022. This year's edition focuses on the question "What is the future of innovation-driven growth?".

Based on 81 indicators, including expenditure on research and development and the number of international patent and trademark applications, the index annually ranks the innovative capacity of 132 countries.

The leaders are Switzerland, the USA and Sweden. With top ratings for the number of patent applications, logistics and the size of the domestic market, Germany takes eighth place overall, improving by two places compared to the previous year.
