Joachim von Oppen has special experience in the protection and defence of technical inventions, as well as in the fields of design and trademark protection.

Patent infringement, opposition and revocation proceedings, on both the opposer and the proprietor side, are a particular focus of his work.

Joachim von Oppen is involved in the standardisation of IP valuation and IP management.

According to Handelsblatt/Best Lawyers, he ranks as one of Germany’s best lawyers in 2024 in the fields of Intellectual Property Law and Litigation.

CV

Studied Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, specializing in control and regulation systems, simulation, power engineering and fluid engineering.

He has worked on aeronautical engineering projects as member and Chairman of the Aachen Association for Aeronautics. He graduated in 1993 with a Master’s degree in Control Engineering.

Legal training at Eisenführ Speiser, the Distance-Learning University of Hagen and at the German Patent and Trademark Office and the German Patent Court in Munich; internships for several months at a US firm of patent attorneys in 1994 and 1997. Patent Attorney (Germany) since 1997, European Patent Attorney and European Trademark and Design Attorney.

Contributed to national and international official standards for patent valuation and for innovation and IP management.

Berlin Coordinator of CEIPI (Centre d´Études Internationales de la Propriété Intellectuelle) training in European patent law at the University of Strasbourg. Lecturer at Management Circle.
