Studied Electrical Engineering, specialising in telecommunications engineering, antenna engineering and high-frequency engineering at the University of the German Armed Forces in Munich. Postgraduate MBA at Brunel University in London, specialising on international business management.
Training in radar electronics and instruction officer in the German Air Force. From 1985 to 1992, lecturer and manager at the Technical College fo the German Air Force, in the fields of electronic circuit engineering, digital engineering, microcomputer engineering, information technology, antenna engineering, microwave engineering and radar engineering.
Legal training as a patent attorney from 1992 to 1997, with parallel foundation studies in Law at the Distance-Learning University of Hagen, with periods of training at a law training firm in Munich, at the patent infringement division of the Munich District Court, and at the German Patent and Trademark Office and the German Patent Court in Munich. State Examination for “Patent Assesor” before the Examination Board appointed by the Federal Ministry of Justice. Patent Attorney since 1997. Multilingual examination before the European Patent Office and admission as a European Patent Attorney 1996, European Trade Mark and Design Attorney.

As a patent attorney, Olaf Ungerer has special professional experience in the drafting, prosecution and defence of German, European and international patent applications, especially in the software and IT fields. He is a member of the DIN Working Committee on “Patent Valuation”. which is exploring the possibility of establishing a national and international standard for patent valuation, and heads a team of specialists that is intensively focused on the topic of patent valuation and portfolio management, and which has developed a special range of services in this regard.
